　　Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write an essay commenting on the statement “The most successful people may not be the smartest ones” You can cite one example or two to illustrate your point of view. You should write at least 150 words but no more than 200 words.

　　Contrary to a lot of people’s thinking, people who have achieved huge successes in their lives are usually not the ones with the highest IQs.

　　First of all, just because you are smart and intelligent doesn’t mean your success is guaranteed. Success takes years of hard work, perseverance, and focus, these qualities do not have a lot to do with a person’s brainpower. A good example is smart kids who have gotten in top universities thinking this means they are already successful and they do not need to apply themselves anymore and they end up being low achievers upon graduation, which is really a waste of their intelligence.

　　Another reason why the smartest people do not equal the most successful people is that smart people sometimes love too much to find shortcuts in everything they do, ignoring that fact that success is gradually built up not achieved overnight. When you are obsessed with how you can be rich and famous in the snap of a finger and do not have the patience to wait for good things to happen, you may never reach any success at all.

　　All in all, the ingredients of success are dedicated work, discipline and rational thinking, not cleverness.
