　　一、Frustrated by these restrictions, Subra left her job in 1981, created her own company, and has devoted the past two decades to helping people fight back against giant industrial polluters.

　　六级词汇讲解：

　　frustrate意为“使沮丧，使挫败”。devote…to doing sth.意为“把……用于做某事，致力于做某事”。fight back against意为“奋力抵抗，还击”，其后的宾语即为抵抗的对象，同时也往往是听音的重点。也可以只说fight back，表示“还击，抵抗;抑制”。如：

　　1)Victims of discrimination often don't have the power to f ght back. 歧视现象的受害者通常无力还击。

　　2 )She fought back her disgust. 她强忍住心里的厌恶。

　　polluter意为“污染源，污染者”。

　　六级考点归纳：

　　与fight有关的常见短语还有：

　　1. fight sb.lsth. off意为“击退，竭力摆脱”。如：

　　They had to fight off the crowds to get out of the theater. 他们得竭力摆脱人群，才能走出剧院。

　　I'm fighting off a cold. 我正在治疗感冒。

　　2. fight sth. out意为“通过争辩(争斗)解决”。如：

　　The conflict is still being fought out. 这一矛盾仍在争辫的过程中。

　　二、One of the biggest challenges facing employers and educators today is the rapid advance of globalization.

　　六级词汇讲解：

　　challenge在句中的意思是“挑战”，同时还可以表示“问题;艰巨的任务”等含义。如：

　　The recessian has certainly exacerbated these challenges. 经济衰退无疑使这些问题进一步恶化

　　face在句中作动词，意为“面对;面临”。advance意为“进步，进展”。

　　face作动词时还有如下常见含义：

　　1. “面对;面临”。如：

　　They stood facing each other for several minutes. 他们面对面站T好几分钟。

　　He is facing the biggest challenge of his career. 他正面临着职业生涯中最大的挑战。

　　You're going to face her sooner or later. 你迟早都得对付她。
