  2014年6月大学英语六级考试答案速查(第三套)

  [作文]

There is a proverb which goes “Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” Metaphorically, it means not to risk losing everything by pinning all of your hopes or future goals on only one option, as you may have invested all of your time, energy, attention or money in that single endeavor.

This proverb is most frequently cited in the field of investment, as investors usually pursue the minimization of risk and the maximization of profit. It can also be verified by the developing modes of different cities, as the prospects of resource-based cities and comprehensively developing cities are quite different. The proverb is even truer when people are setting their future goals, as it is highly risky to run forward recklessly without any sort of safety net or fallback plan.

Generally speaking, though we sometimes need passion and concentration to pursue successes, we cannot afford to lose all of our “eggs” at one time, because we only have a finite amount of them. When making plans, we had better make well-rounded ones. Only in this way can we avoid the tragedy of being driven to the last ditch.

Recently, Chinese Academy of Sciences has published a series of annual reports about its latest scientific discoveries and a blueprint for the coming year1. The reports consist of three parts2: science development, high-technology development, China’s sustainable development strategy3. The first one includes the latest discoveries by Chinese scientists, such as the research of new particles and the breakthrough4 of the H7N9 virus research. The report also highlights5 the issues that need to be concerned in the next few years. The second one announces some hot areas of applied science research6, for instance, three-D printing and artificial organ research. The last one suggests enhancing top-level designs to remove structural barriers arising from industrial upgrading and promote energy conservation and emissions reduction7.
