　　一、They promise to keep an eye on the house for us.

　　keep an eye on sth.意为“照看;密切注视”。如：

　　It isn't easy to concentrate on your work when you've got to keep an eye on a baby who is crawling all over the places. 当你要分心照看一个四处乱爬的婴孩时，就不容易集中精力工作了。

　　六级考点归纳：

　　与keep有关的口语短语还有：

　　1. keep body and soul together意为“勉强维持生活”。如：

　　He is so poor that he cannot keep body and soul together. 他穷得连温饱都不能保证。

　　2. keep it to yourself意为“保密”。如：

　　You should keep it to yourself-otherwise you'll be in big trouble. 你要保密，不然你就会有大麻烦。

　　3. keep my fingers crossed意为“交叉手指;祈求某事成功”。如：

　　I will keep my f ngers crossed for you today. 希望今天幸运之神眷顾你。

　　4. keep one's head above water意为“活下去;不负债”。如：

　　Earning barely enough to support the family, father was quite happy only if he cauld keep his head above water. 父亲赚的钱勉强够养家，能不欠债就算不错了。

　　5. keep one's shirt on意为“要保持冷静”。如：

　　Keep your shixt on, Harry; we have plenty of time to catch the train. 哈里，别太紧张了，我们还有很多时间，足够我们赶到火车站的。

　　might have done表示“本可能发生或本可以做的事没有发生或没有做”。在本句话中的意思是“他本来可以用更好的说法来表达他的观点，可是却没有。”express one's idea是“表达想法”的意思。make sense是口语中常用的表示“有道理;有意义”的短语，与之相反的“没有意义，胡谕又道”，即nonsense.如：

　　That's nonsense! Why am I the one being rejected? 胡说八道!为什么被拒绝的人是我?

　　与sense有关的口语词汇和短语还有：

　　1. It doesn't make (any) sense.意为“这讲不通;这毫无意义”。如：

　　You didn't go to the concert? It doesn't make any sense-you are a huge fan of Jane. 你没有去听演唱会?不可能啊—你可是简的超级粉丝。

　　2. common sense意为“常识”。如：

　　It is common sense that the earth goes around the sun. 地球绕着太阳转，这是常识。

　　三、It would be a shame for anyone visiting Australia not to see this unique creation in architecture.
