　　【译文】China attaches increasing importance to public libraries and encourages individuals to make full use of them. According to the lately published statistics, China is witnessing the annual growth in the number of public libraries. Many libraries have created a quieter and cozier environment for readers through renovating and expanding. Large public libraries not only provide a variety of references, but also hold some activities like lectures and exhibitions regularly. In recent years, a number of digital libraries have emerged, saving the space of depositing books. Some of them are equipped with self-service systems, bringing more convenience to borrowing and returning books, which further meets the need of readers.

　　1) 中国越来越重视公共图书馆，并鼓励人们充分加以利用，新近公布的统计数字表明，中国的公共图书馆数量在逐年增长。

　　第一句话较长，且前后主语不统一，故可以拆分为两个句子来翻译，“新近”为第二个句子开头。第一句话可根据中文“并”写两个简单句用并列连词and连接。“重视”可用attach importance to, pay attention to, value, think highly of 来表达。“越来越”除了用more and more,还可以灵活使用increasing或increasingly。“充分利用”可以用make full use of, take advantage of来表达。第一个意群确定主语，有两种方法，第一种直接用中文给的“中国”做主语，第二种可以用“公共图书馆”做主语，写成被动句。

　　China attaches increasing importance to public libraries and encourage individuals to make full use of them. / Public libraries are paid more and more attention to and encouraged to be taken full advantage of in China.

　　第二个意群同样可以用不同的主语来翻译。第一种是数量做主语，第二种是用中国做主语，见证数量的增长。

　　According to the lately published statistics, the number of Chinese public libraries is growing year by year. /According to the lately published statistics, China is now building a growing number of public libraries.

　　2) 许多图书馆通过翻新和扩建，为读者创造了更为安静、舒适的环境。

　　这个句子可以把“创造了”作为简单句的谓语动词，用完成时态来翻译。“翻新”和“扩建”两个动词可以用现在分词的形式来表达，renovate表示“翻新”，expand/extend/enlarge可以表示“扩建”。

　　Many libraries have created a quieter and cozier environment for readers through renovating and expanding.

　　3)大型公共图书馆不仅提供种类繁多的参考资料，而且定期举办讲座、展览等活动。

　　本句根据“不仅而且”马上联想用not only…but also连接两个简单句，主语为大型图书馆。词汇方面，“参考资料”可用references/ reference materials,“展览”为exhibition, “开展”可用hold/undertake/carry out。

　　Large public libraries not only provide a variety of references, but also hold some activities like lectures and exhibitions regularly.

　　4) 近年来，也出现了许多数字图书馆，从而节省了存放图书所需的空间。

　　该句中文是个无主句，故可以把宾语数字图书馆当成英语句中的主语进行翻译。第一个动词“出现了”可以用作谓语动词，emerge/arise/appear均可表示“出现”。第二个动词“节省了”可以写成现在分词来表达动作概念。“存放”可以用deposit/ store来表达。

　　In recent years, a number of digital libraries have emerged, saving the space of depositing books.

　　5)一些图书馆还推出了自助服务系统，使读者借书还书更加方便，进一步满足了读者的需求。

　　该句有三个谓语动词，“推出”“使”“满足需求”，同样地可以考虑用非谓语动词、并列连词或从句来翻译。词汇方面，“推出”可以用introduce/launch, “满足需求”可以用固定搭配meet the need of / satisfy the demand of来表达。
