According to the lately published statistics, China witnesses a growing number of public libraries. Many libraries have created a quieter and cozier environment for readers through renovating and expanding. Large public libraries not only provide a variety of references, but also hold some activities like lectures and exhibitions regularly. In recent years, a number of digital libraries have emerged, saving the space of depositing books. Some of them are equipped with self-service system, bringing more convenience to borrowing and returning books, which further meets the need of readers.

　　1) 中国越来越重视公共图书馆，并鼓励人们充分加以利用，新近公布的统计数字表明，中国的公共图书馆数量在逐年增长。

　　【解析】第一句话较长，且前后主语不统一，故可以拆分为两个句子来翻译，“新近”为第二个句子开头。第一句话可根据中文“并”写两个简单句用并列连词and连接。“重视”可用attach importance to, pay attention to, value, think highly of 来表达。越来越除了用more and more, 还可以用increasing。“充分利用”可以用make full use of, take advantage of来表达。第一个意群确定主语，有两种方法，第一种直接用中文给的“中国”做主语，第二种可以用“公共图书馆”做主语，写成被动句。

　　2) 许多图书馆通过翻新和扩建，为读者创造了更为安静、舒适的环境。

　　这个句子可以把“创造了”作为简单句的谓语动词，用完成时态来翻译。“翻新”和“扩建”【解析】两个动词可以用现在分词的形式来表达，renovate表示“翻新”，expand/extend/enlarge可以表示“扩建”。

　　【译文】Many libraries have created a quieter and cozier environment for readers through renovating and expanding.

　　3)大型公共图书馆不仅提供种类繁多的参考资料，而且定期举办讲座、展览等活动。

　　【解析】该句中文是个无主句，故可以把宾语数字图书馆当成英语句中的主语进行翻译。第一个动词“出现了”可以用作谓语动词，emerge/arise/appear 均可表示“出现”。第二个动词“节省了”可以写成现在分词来表达动作概念。“存放”可以用deposit/ store来表达。
