　　Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to translate a passage from Chinese into English. You should write your answer on Answer sheet 2.

　　中国越来越重视公共图书馆，并鼓励人们充分加以利用。新近公布的统计数字表明，中国的公共图书馆数量在逐年增长。许多图书馆通过翻新和扩建，为读者创造了更为安静、舒适的环境。大型公共图书馆不仅提供种类繁多的参考资料，而且定期举办讲座、展览等活动。近年来，也出现了许多数字图书馆，从而节省了存放图书所需的空间。一些图书馆还推出了自助服务系统，使读者借书还书更加方便，进一步满足了读者的需求。

　　Besides higher attention paid to public libraries , China also encourages people to make full use of / take good advantage of /fully utilize them. (China is paying more and more attention to public libraries and encouraging people to make full use of them.)(According to the statistics newly released ) / Newly released statistics show that the number of public libraries in China is growing / increasing year by year. Many libraries have created a quieter and more comfortable environment for readers through renovation and expansion. There’re not only a wide variety of reference materials, but also other activities including lectures, and exhibitions regularly held in large public libraries. In recent years, numerous digital libraries has also emerged, thus saving the space needed to store books. Some libraries have also introduced / launched a self-service system that makes it easier for readers to borrow and return books, further satisfying/ meeting the needs /demands of readers.

　　1. 中国越来越重视公共图书馆，并鼓励人们充分加以利用

　　重视 pay/attach attention to

　　充分利用 make full use of / take good advantage of /fully utilize

　　可以处理成并列句 China is paying more and more attention to public libraries and encouraging people to make full use of them.

　　或讲前半句处理成介宾结构，逻辑上理解“除了重视公共图书馆，中国还鼓励……”

　　Besides higher attention paid to public libraries , China also encourages people to make full use of / take good advantage of /fully utilize them.

　　2. 新近公布的统计数字表明

　　短语形式：According to the statistics newly released,

　　宾语从句：Newly released statistics show that...

　　3.许多图书馆通过翻新和扩建，为读者创造了更为安静、舒适的环境。

　　主干：图书馆为读者创造了更为安静、舒适的环境

　　可用到搭配：provide /create sth for sb

　　offer sb sth

　　【方式状语】通过翻新和扩建through/by renovation and expansion 置于句尾

　　Many libraries have created a quieter and more comfortable environment for readers through renovation and expansion.

　　4.大型公共图书馆不仅提供种类繁多的参考资料，而且定期举办讲座、展览等活动，

　　直接以“大型公共图书馆”为主语， 与举办讲座、展览，逻辑上有歧义

　　可以用There be 句型处理，将大型公共图书馆变成地点状语，置于句尾。

　　种类繁多的a wide variety of

　　讲座、展览等活动 暗含包含关系 other activities including lectures and exhibitions

　　[定期举办的]做(讲座、展览等活动)的定语，表示种被动关系，可以用非谓语 held 后置进行翻译，即other activities including lectures and exhibitions regularly held

　　There’re not only a wide variety of reference materials, but also other activities including lectures and exhibitions regularly held in large public libraries.

　　5. 一些图书馆还推出了自助服务系统，使读者借书还书更加方便，进一步满足了读者的需求。前两个分句可以处理成定语从句，后面句宾语(读者借书还书)较长，可以用it做形式宾语。

　　满足了读者的需求 satisfy/ meet the needs /demands of readers

　　Some libraries have also introduced / launched a self-service system that makes it easier for readers to borrow and return books, further satisfying/ meeting the needs /demands of readers.
