　　一、I've spent all afternon trying in vain to put this bookcase together.

　　六级词汇讲解：

　　spend…doing sth.意为“花费……做某事”，其中doing之前还可加上介词in.in vain意为“徒劳无益，白费力气”，一般用作状语，常用在try“努力”之后。put…together意为“组装，装配”。

　　六级考点归纳：

　　短语put…togethe还有如下含义：

　　1. “(通过收集资料、观点等)整理出;拼凑”。如：

　　It took me a whole day to put the proposal together. 我花了一整天才整理出这个建议。

　　2. “汇集”。如：

　　I've no idea how to put together a meal. 对于如何准备饭菜我毫无头绪。

　　二、I wish you would reconsider.

　　六级词汇讲解：

　　wish在表示愿望时，使用的频率很高。可以用在陈述句或者感叹句中，表示与事实相反的情况，或表示将来不太可能实现的愿望，因此从句中必须用虚拟语气。如：

　　1)He wished he hadn't said that. 他希望他没讲那样的话。

　　2 )How I wish I were as tall as you are. 我真希望和你一样高。

　　三、Do you understand why the local people are opposed to the new dam up the river?

　　六级词汇讲解：

　　why引导的是understand的宾语从句，因此应采用陈述句语序，这种看似疑问句套疑问句的句式在听力中要格外留意，避免理解错误。local意为“当地的”。be opposed to此处意为“强烈反对”。

　　六级考点归纳：

　　在口语中表示“反对”的单词或短语主要有：

　　1. ppose作动词，意为“反对;阻止”，相对正式，暗含“采取行动以阻止”的意味。如：

　　The reintroduction of the death penalty was opposed by the pubtic. 公众强烈反对恢复死刑。

　　He was opposed to the idea of reforming. 他强烈反对改革这一想法。

　　2. be against意为“反对”，强调状态，十分常用。如：

　　They are all against the proposal. 他们全都反对这一提议。

　　3. object to意为“反对，对……反感”。如：

　　Why did you object to our proposal? 你为何反对我们的提议?
